The division of Neuromuscular Medicine in the Neurology department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center provides a comprehensive, wholesome and a very friendly and supportive neuromuscular fellowship experience. Being the only academic university hospital in the state, fellows get a rich and diverse experience of varied and challenging neuromuscular pathology. We have 3 full time neuromuscular faculty, a fully operational NCS and EMG suite with an autonomic lab and a great technologist team. We have affiliate faculty within the university as well as outside our university system who regularly attend our weekly didactics. We are blessed with faculty trained in single fiber EMG as well as autonomic studies. Neuropathology support is available. Our faculty team have both neurology and physiatry backgrounds. We are also able to provide electives in Botox use as well as punch skin biopsy training for diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy. We take pride in our weekly neuromuscular didactics and mentor fellows and residents to present papers in regional and national conferences. We are a regional site for several ongoing clinical trials and our research division fully supports investigator initiated as well as industry research. Our neurology clinics are state of the art. Additionally, given the complexity of inpatient cases on general neurology service, the EMG lab gets interesting and challenging referrals for inpatient studies. Our yearly NCS and EMG count is approximately 1500 studies. We are the regional site for Muscular Dystrophy Association and ALS clinics. Join us January 19 at 6:10 PM central time for a live presentation about our neuromuscular program on AANEM platform.
