This ACGME accredited program offers core competency training in the clinical evaluation and management of neuromuscular disorders defined as diseases of the peripheral nerve, muscle, neuromuscular junction and anterior horn cell. The program provides training in the care of adult and pediatric neuromuscular patients in the outpatient clinic setting (MDA, SMA: including newborn screening, Duchenne, ALS and Neuropathy Clinics) as well as in the inpatient setting. Training also include performance and interpretation of muscle, nerve and skin biopsies and nerve conduction studies, repetitive nerve stimulation, needle EMG, nerve and muscle ultrasound, single fiber EMG, quantitative motor unit analysis and quantitative sensory testing. The opportunity to get involved in clinical research projects is also available. Training also include performance and interpretation of muscle, nerve and skin biopsies under the supervision of 3 NM Faculty who have Clinical Neuromuscular Pathology Certification through UCNS. Our Program includes 15 Neuromuscular Medicine Faculty members, 4 Nurse Practitioners, 1 nurse, 3 physical therapists and 1 genetic counselor. In most years, one of our fellows receives dedicated training in pediatric neuromuscular medicine; thus pediatric neurologists are encouraged to apply.
