The AANEM community remembers the life and legacy of AANEM member, Dr. A. Robert Spitzer, who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.

Dr. Spitzer devoted more than four decades to advancing neurology and electrodiagnostic medicine. After earning his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completing fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health, he served as Professor of Neurology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and Director of the Electromyography and Evoked Potentials Laboratory at Harper Hospital.
Board-certified in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Spitzer was widely respected for his pioneering application of neural network analysis to electromyography and clinical neurophysiology, as well as for his dedication to fellowship training and mentorship. His contributions helped shape the practice and future of electrodiagnostic medicine, and his impact endures through the many physicians he trained.
After becoming an AANEM member in 1986, Dr. Spitzer went on to chair the Equipment and Computer Committee. Colleagues remember him as a brilliant innovator and compassionate physician whose contributions helped shape the field.
