This is a one-year clinical program. Fellows are eligible to take the board examination for electrophysiology at the end of their fellowship program. Majority of the patients with neuromuscular diseases are seen in the outpatient setting. The fellows attend the three-half day/ week neuromuscular clinics, monthly SMA clinic, bi-monthly PPMD clinics, CMT clinic, brachial plexus clinic, neuromuscular screening and urgent clinics, as well as the optional ALS clinic. We have a large neuromuscular population with diverse and frequently rare pathology so the fellows will have extensive exposure to variety of neuromuscular disease, mastering the skill/knowledge in diagnosis and management. As most of these clinics are multidisciplinary clinics with multiple specialists in cardiology, pulmonary, endocrine, GI, PE&R, therapists, nutritionist, social workers, as well as nurses and coordinators, the fellows will learn to collaborate and communicate with others to provide the best patient care. The fellow also will work closely with the Clinical In Vivo Gene Therapy team and the Gene Team to manage patients undergoing gene therapy and other advanced cell therapies. There is opportunity for the fellow to be involved in clinical trials and research for neuromuscular diseases.
