The University of Rochester offers one dedicated Pediatric Neuromuscular Medicine fellowship position within a comprehensive Neuromuscular Division. Fellows receive individualized mentorship from four pediatric neuromuscular faculty members while having access to the full clinical, educational, diagnostic, and research resources of our adult and pediatric Neuromuscular programs.
The fellow's primary clinical experience is in the Neuromuscular Clinic, caring for children with a broad spectrum of neuromuscular disorders. Fellows also care for adult neuromuscular patients, providing a unique opportunity to develop expertise across the lifespan and understand the transition from pediatric to adult neuromuscular care.
Our program partners closely with Golisano Children's Hospital, a 148-bed regional children's hospital serving 14 counties and approximately 85,000 children annually. Fellows benefit from exposure to a broad and diverse pediatric population and complex neuromuscular disease.
Fellows work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including two genetic counselors, and have opportunities to participate in active gene therapy programs, clinical trials, and clinical and translational research, including research through the Mackenzie Lab focused on rare genetic neuromuscular diseases.
The fellowship also provides access to the broader Neuromuscular Division's resources, including EMG/EDX, neuromuscular ultrasound, pathology, multidisciplinary care, conferences, and the expertise of 18 faculty members across adult and pediatric neuromuscular medicine.
