Finding your first job after training can be both exciting and overwhelming—especially when you're still figuring out what you truly want in your career.
During my NM medicine fellowship year (PGY-5), I began my job search around August. At the time, I was open to a wide range of possibilities: academic or private practice, inpatient or outpatient settings, even whether to focus more on NM medicine or general PM&R. The options were broad, and I hadn’t yet narrowed down a specific direction. But I did know one thing for certain: I wanted to do EMGs.
That clarity became the foundation of my search, and it led me to the AANEM Career Center. As a professional society dedicated to NM and EDX medicine, AANEM was the most logical place to find job opportunities that aligned with my clinical interests.
The AANEM Career Center is located on the AANEM website and is easy to find and navigate.
For those interested:
- Go to www.aanem.org
- Hover over “Clinical & Practice Resources”
- Click on “Job Seekers” under the “Career” section
- Select your field under Job Search

In a sea of job boards and recruitment emails, the AANEM Career Center offered something different—a curated list of opportunities tailored to our field. Combined with the networking opportunities at the annual meeting, it proved to be the most effective tool in helping me transition from training to practice.
If you're in NM medicine or PM&R and looking for your next step, I highly recommend starting your search at AANEM.
