AANEM Seeking Member Neurologist for RUC Alternate Advisor Position

Published November 08, 2024

AANEM is seeking a neurologist to join our efforts in advocating for fair and accurate physician reimbursement by serving as an alternate advisor for the American Medical Association's Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC). The newly appointed alternate delegate will join Kevin Fitzpatrick, MD (PM&R) in making recommendations regarding valuation for CPT codes that affect our members which are up for review.

In this role, the selected neurologist will work closely with AANEM’s Health Policy team, other specialty societies, and the current RUC advisor to help review, analyze, and present recommendations on physician services valuation when they apply to our members. This work is critical in ensuring that neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic services receive appropriate valuation in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. This is a unique opportunity to influence reimbursement policy and represent the neurology community on a national level. For more information on the RUC, see the AMA RUC webpage.

Responsibilities of the RUC Alternate:

  • Be available to attend RUC meeting when CPT codes that affect our members are up for review. RUC meetings occur three times per year (AANEM generally only attends one meeting in person).
  • Be available to work with AANEM staff and physician experts to develop RVS recommendations for new or revised CPT codes, in partnership with other associations such as AAN and AAPM&R.  This requires very timely responses to email when issues arise.
All travel and lodging expenses are paid by AANEM pursuant to the business expense travel policy.

To indicate your interest in this opportunity, please email a brief statement of interest with current contact/bio information along with a CV to rvolbrecht@aanem.org by December 6, 2024
