The program involves working in the Clinical Electrodiagnostic Medicine Laboratory and evaluating patients with neuromuscular disorders in the outpatient clinic. During the first 2 months of the fellowship, the fellow participates with a Clinical Neurophysiology Review course which includes review of the basics of nerve conduction studies and needle examination and lectures covering the broad range of neuromuscular disorders. The fellow performs electrodiagnostic studies, including inpatient EMG, under the supervision of faculty with graduated responsibility throughout the year. The fellow also participates in our multidisciplinary ALS clinic. There is also exposure, and ability to learn special techniques including single fiber EMG, evoked potential studies, autonomic studies, and intraoperative monitoring. The fellow contributes to the weekly neuromuscular conference. Fellows are encouraged to pursue one or more research projects during the year. Mayo Clinic Arizona maintains a high faculty/trainee ratio with practitioners from a wide range of disciplines. The program is designed to exceed the requirements for electrodiagnostic training as defined by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
