The University of Rochester Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME accredited program that prepares trainees for subspecialty certification while offering robust exposure to the full spectrum of neuromuscular diseases. Unique training tracks include the care of adult and pediatric patients across outpatient clinics—including MDA, SMA (with newborn screening), Duchenne, ALS, Neuropathy clinics, and inpatient settings. In most years, one fellow receives dedicated pediatric neuromuscular training, and pediatric neurologists are especially encouraged to apply.
Our program provides advanced training in neuromuscular ultrasound, electrodiagnostic, single-fiber EMG, and interpretation of muscle, nerve, and skin biopsies. We are recognized for our state-of-the-art technology and innovative techniques, which draw learners from other institutions nationwide. Fellows are mentored by dedicated faculty leaders, including award-winning educators who exemplify excellence in teaching and mentorship.
A hallmark of our program is its multidisciplinary collaboration, with fellows working closely alongside colleagues in genetics, pulmonology, PM&R, physical therapy, cardiology, and social work to deliver comprehensive, team-based patient care.
Research and scholarly activities are supported, with opportunities to participate in clinical trials, contribute to NIH-funded projects, and present findings at national meetings. Our fellowship graduates pursue successful careers in academic medicine and clinical practice, carrying forward our tradition of excellence in patient care, innovation, and education.
