William S. Pease, MD, Receives 2026 AANEM Advocacy Award

William S. Pease, MD's decades of service have helped shape both AANEM and national health policy. A member since 1985 and AANEM President in 2016, he has long demonstrated a commitment to advancing patient care through leadership and advocacy.

For 20 years, he represented AANEM at American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates meetings, where he brought a NM perspective to national conversations. What began as an opportunity to engage in organized medicine became a sustained effort to improve care, particularly for patients with disabling illness and injury.

During his tenure, he contributed to impactful advocacy efforts, including support for successful resolutions expanding insurance coverage for pediatric orthotic footwear and adaptive sports equipment—helping reduce financial barriers for patients and families. These efforts reflect his broader goal to strengthen access to necessary care while ensuring physicians can advocate effectively for their patients.

He credits AANEM's ongoing support and was encouraged to see the organization expand its delegation over time, increasing its influence within the AMA. He also expresses gratitude to colleagues and mentors, including Lois Nora, MD, for his initial appointment, along with John Kincaid, MD, for their collaboration.

In addition to his national advocacy work, his service to AANEM spans decades of leadership across boards and committees, reflecting a deep and sustained investment in the field. He has also been a generous supporter of the American Neuromuscular Foundation, where he is recognized among its top lifetime donors.
