Dr. Chan Receives Best Abstract Award at the AANEM 61st Annual Meeting

Guideline Offers Direction in Genetic Testing for Certain Types of Muscular Dystrophy

A new
guideline from the AANEM and American Academy of Neurology  recommends guidance on how doctors should evaluate the full picture in order to determine what genetic tests may best diagnose a person’s subtype of limb-girdle or distal muscular dystrophy.

CMS Re-opens Hardship Exemption Applications for Meaningful Use

On October 7, CMS announced that they are re-opening and extending the
hardship exemption application deadline to November 30, 2014.  A successful application allows providers to avoid the 2015 Medicare penalties for not demonstrating meaningful use of Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT).  

State Liaisons Meet for Day on Capitol Hill

On September 15, AANEM hosted its first Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. AANEM staff led 26 members of AANEM’s State Liaison Program on meetings with a total of 76 congressional offices.

Father-Daughter Team Shares Passion for Neuromuscular Medicine

Neurologists Ludwig “Lud” Gutmann, MD, and Laurie Gutmann, MD, share a passion for neuromuscular medicine—they also share DNA. A rare father-daughter neurology team, the Gutmanns’ first project together began when Laurie was a third year medical student at West Virginia University (WVU) over two decades ago. 


Quality and Resource Use Reports Available Soon

Physicians, it’s time to access your confidential Medicare feedback reports, called Quality and Resource Use Reports (QRUR). In early September, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will make QRURs available based on care provided in 2013 to all groups and solo practitioners.
