Genetic Sequencing for LGMD Patients

Emory University is partnering with a consortium of LGMD disease foundations (
LGMD-diagnosis.org). Their goal is to do diagnostic sequencing research for patients suspected of having LGMD or other muscular dystrophy with similar clinical presentations.

2015 CPT Code Changes Impacting NM and EDX Medicine

This fall the American Medical Association (AMA) released the 2015 CPT code changes that went into effect January 1, 2015. There were some minor changes relevant to electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular medicine. 

2015 Coding Guide Now Available

The AANEM announced the release of the 2015 version of their Coding Guide on January 27, 2015.  The AANEM 2015 Online Coding Guide is the most comprehensive source for electrodiagnostic (EDX) and neuromuscular (NM) coding.  

Continuing the Fight Against Fraud

AANEM continues to work on educating payers about quality electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine studies. Most recently, on December 10, Peter Grant, MD, gave a fraud and abuse presentation to over 30 medical directors.

ABEM MOCP Annual Recording Fees Due by Dec. 31

If you are enrolled in the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine’s (ABEM) Maintenance of Certification Program (MOCP), your deadline for submitting your annual CME recording fee ($30) and form is December 31 to avoid a late fee.

Kathy Smith Retires After 27 Years

In 1987, attendees at the San Antonio annual meeting of the American Association of Electromyography & Electrodiagnosis’ (AAEE, AANEM’s predecessor) were introduced to a new Meeting Manager, Kathy Smith. Twenty-seven years and 27 annual meetings later, Kathy has announced her retirement, effective December 12, 2014.
