CMS Re-opens Hardship Exemption Applications for Meaningful Use

On October 7, CMS announced that they are re-opening and extending the
hardship exemption application deadline to November 30, 2014.  A successful application allows providers to avoid the 2015 Medicare penalties for not demonstrating meaningful use of Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT).  

State Liaisons Meet for Day on Capitol Hill

On September 15, AANEM hosted its first Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. AANEM staff led 26 members of AANEM’s State Liaison Program on meetings with a total of 76 congressional offices.

Quality and Resource Use Reports Available Soon

Physicians, it’s time to access your confidential Medicare feedback reports, called Quality and Resource Use Reports (QRUR). In early September, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will make QRURs available based on care provided in 2013 to all groups and solo practitioners. 

There is Still Time to Register for the Open Payment System

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the deadline for data review through the Sunshine Act portal until September 8. Physicians should review reports and seek necessary corrections as soon as possible. 

EDX Congressional Sign-On Letter Sent to CMS

On July 31, a congressional sign-on letter was sent to the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services voicing concern about the impact the 2013 Medicare reimbursement cuts to several EDX codes have had on patient access to quality care.

Deadline for ICD-10 Finalized

October 1, 2015, is the new ICD-10 compliance date mandated in a final rule by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) last month.

Comparative Billing Report on Electrodiagnostic Testing to be Released in June – Check Your Mailbox!

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced last week that it will release a Comparative Billing Report (CBR) on Electrodiagnostic (EDX) testing this month. The report will only go out to a sampling of a maximum of 5,000 non-hospital based EDX providers this month, so check your mail for a copy of the report!

Meaningful Use Deadlines Approaching

Deadlines for Meaningful Use (MU) of electronic health records (EHRs) for 2015 incentive payments are quickly approaching. All EDX medicine physicians who are not hospital based and treat Medicare and/or Medicaid patients are required to meet MU standards of at least Stage 1 by October 1, 2014.
