Nerve Conduction Study Trainer

The product is a digital (phone, table or PC) educational program that will be used to assist in the training and understanding of the techniques and findings of nerve conduction studies (NCS) in the evaluation of patients with neuromuscular disorder. Nerve conduction studies are an important component of a neuromuscular electrodiagnostic test, and help to determine the presence, type, and severity of neuromuscular disorder. The program in an interactive digital education program with several sections, including:
• Concepts of nerve conduction studies
• Individual nerve demonstrations (including setup pictures, video description, written details of the technique, pitfalls, and utility for each nerve)
• Videos and pictures describing features of NCS waveform interpretation
• Examples of a variety of normal and abnormal NCS waveform findings, with descriptions and educational points related to each image
• Tables of setup techniques and reference values based on those techniques
• Quizzes to test understanding of the concepts of NCS

The user will be able to navigate within and between each section to best learn the various aspects of NCS performance and interpretation. The goal of the program is to assist the user to more accurately perform and interpret NCS.

This digital educational product, developed by Devon Rubin, MD and Jennifer Walkord, R.NCS.T is a unique, interactive multimedia educational program designed to test and improve knowledge in the performance, interpretation, and understanding of concepts, techniques, and interpretations of nerve conduction studies.  This program consists of 22 unique, interactive quizzes incorporating over 600 questions related to all aspects of NCS, including general concepts of motor and sensory NCS and late responses, methods and techniques, pitfalls, interpretation, decision making, practical anatomy and physical examination findings, and basic physiology and instrumentation.  Types of questions include traditional multiple choice and multiple answer questions as well as “pick one”, “hot spot”, and “matching” questions, and include images and videos of nerve conductions. Each question provides an explanation and teaching point related to the question.
