CMS Mandates Providers Have 60 Days to Return Overpayments 

According to final regulations released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on February 11, 2016, physicians must actively look for overpayment through self-audits and other forms of research.  Physicians have 60 days from the date of identification to return overpayments to Medicare.

Washington Update for February

On February 9, 2016, the president released his Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Budget Request to Congress.  Following President Obama’s vocal support for medical research during his final State of the Union address the public health community was optimistic about the FY 2017 Budget Request. However, the proposal mainly focused recommendations for additional public health resources exclusively towards cancer programs

Corticosteroid Treatments in Males with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

This study in the Journal of Child Neurology evaluated the association between steroid use and loss of ambulation in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 477 patients collected at multiple sites over 30 years. 

CMS to Release Comparative Billing Reports on EDX Testing in February

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will be issuing a national provider Comparative Billing Report (CBR) on Electrodiagnostic (EDX) Testing on February 1, 2016.

New evidence from a small case series in Journal of Clinical Neuromuscular Disease - Fludarabine has shown efficacy in the treatment of CIDP associated with monoclonal gammopathy and distal acquired demyelinating symmetric neuropathy, and may be an option for patients with refractory disease
