Updates to AANEM Disciplinary Policies and Procedures

11/16/2016

Under the direction of David A. Simpson, DO, and Raghav Govindarajan, MD, the Ethics and Peer Review Committee has updated, and the AANEM Board of Directors has approved, the AANEM Disciplinary Policies and Procedures. The procedures were initially adopted in 1995 to enable fair and impartial review of complaints of professional misconduct concerning AANEM members, and, when appropriate, to pursue disciplinary action.
“The updated disciplinary policy has created a well-defined protocol and procedure to address member grievance through the Ethics Committee,” said Dr. Govindarajan, one of the authors of the updated policy.
Dr. Simpson, Chair of the Ethics Committee, said, “The Disciplinary Policies and Procedures are a model for review and, if appropriate, disciplinary action against unethical behavior. As the AANEM sets the standards for the practice of electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular medicine, it too guarantees a fair, confidential, and impartial review of complaints of professional misconduct concerning AANEM members.”

The updated policy as well as AANEM’s Grievance Complaint Form may be accessed on the Ethics page of the AANEM website: https://www.aanem.org/Education/Ethics
