Meaningful Use Hardship Exception Deadline Approaches

6/17/2015

If you are an eligible professional (EP) that did not successfully participate in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program in 2014, payment adjustments will begin on January 1, 2016.  Physician can potentially avoid the 2016 payment adjustment by applying for a 2016 hardship exemption by July 1, 2015.

The hardship exception applications are available here.

To file a hardship exception you will need to:
  • Show proof of a circumstance beyond your control.
  • Explicitly outline how the circumstance significantly impaired your ability to meet meaningful use.

There are certain hardship exceptions where supporting documentation must also be provided.

If granted, an exception is valid for the 2016 payment adjustment only.
