AANEM Announces New Program for Young Physicians

AANEM has launched a new program – the Young Physician Leadership Program - to help young physicians easily get involved in a professional association, gain leadership experience, and develop their careers. There are two ways to participate in the program.

1. Sign Up to Be an AANEM Young Ambassador

All physicians in training and medical students are welcome to become AANEM Young Ambassadors. Young Ambassadors learn about all of the resources available through AANEM to help them build a career in NM, MSK, NMUS, and EDX medicine. They also are given opportunities to help shape the future of the association by sharing their opinions and insights on important topics. In addition, AANEM helps them connect with other people pursuing the same career objectives.

Young Ambassadors receive a free gift and Ambassador Certificate documenting their participation. They are also enrolled in exclusive discounts, promotions, and engagement activities designed to introduce ambassadors to all of the materials available through AANEM. There is no cost to become an AANEM Young Ambassador, and there are only a few easy requirements:
  • Current member of AANEM
  • Medical student, resident, or fellow
  • Actively participate in the program after signing up
To sign up or ask a question, email membership@aanem.org.

2. Serve on the AANEM Resident & Fellow Council

Members of the Resident & Fellow Council receive all of the benefits of being a Young Ambassador, as well as mentorship from AANEM board members and other leading physicians. Resident & Fellow Council members also receive a 50% discount on select AANEM education products, a $1,000 travel stipend for the in-person AANEM Annual Meeting, and free participation in a future Emerging Leaders Forum.

Residents and fellows studying in a postgraduate program are invited to apply for the AANEM Resident & Fellow Council membership. Council members serve a 2-year term and are selected through an application process. There are a limited number of available positions on the council. To apply for a position, submit the following items by email to membership@aanem.org:
  • Resident & Fellow Council application
  • Personal statement of interest in joining the council
  • Copy of your curriculum vitae
  • Letter of recommendation from your Training Program Director or other AANEM member
Additionally, two members of the Resident & Fellow Council will be selected as Leadership Liaisons. They will co-chair the council and participate in AANEM board of director meetings. Leadership Liaisons receive waived in-person meeting registration, airfare, and 5-6 nights hotel accommodations to attend the annual meeting. To be considered for one of the Leadership Liaison positions, get your council application in by August 22, 2022.

Being involved in AANEM is a great way to stay informed, learn new information, enhance your current skills, and connect with leaders in NM, MSK, NMUS, and EDX medicine. The association hosts a forum to help members share knowledge and discuss important topics. Members also receive access to exclusive educational materials, excellent conferences, and leadership opportunities to help build their career.
