The AANEM has reached a major milestone with the recording of its centennial podcast. Ted M. Burns, MD (pictured), recently interviewed Daniel MacArthur, MD, of Mass General for the 100^th episode of AANEM Presents Nerve and Muscle Junction. Coming soon, Next Generation Sequencing and its Impact on the Practice of Neuromuscular Medicine by Dr. MacArthur, will be available for download, free of charge for Mac and PC on iTunes and in the AANEM Marketplace.
 
Dr. Burns, from the University of Virginia serves as editor of the Podcast Editorial Board. He has led the AANEM’s podcast initiative for the past nine years, conducting the majority of interviews available on Nerve and Muscle Junction. Jackie Gunderson, education & meeting director, noted Dr. Burns’ positive impact on podcast development as an educational resource for physicians and health professionals involved in neuromuscular (NM) and electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine, “It’s really because of Dr. Burns’ leadership that our podcasts have been so successful. He has really championed the program.”  
 
The AANEM started producing podcasts in August of 2006. Dr. Burns recalls that, “In the early days, Shirlyn Adkins, Susan Yoder, and I tried to figure out how in the world to produce these. It seems like light years ago.”
 
At the time, few podcasts existed that were dedicated to medical education and according to Dr. Burns, “Very few people even knew what a podcast was! I really credit the AANEM for being willing to take a chance and start producing podcasts like these ahead of most other organizations.”
 
Nerve and Muscle Junction podcasts offer discourse on recent publications in NM and EDX medicine literature, featuring interviews with the authors and other experts.

“These podcasts are a valuable resource for physicians, technicians, and residency training programs. We often hear that they are used as a tool to prepare for (re)certifications,” said Dr. Burns.
 
“The beauty of the educational podcast is that you can enhance your knowledge base and keep up-to-date on what is most relevant in the field anytime, anywhere, listening (and re-listening) at your own pace,” said Jackie.
