The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that the Sunshine Act portal (also known as the Open Payment System) is back online for physician registration after the system was taken offline on August 3 due to technical difficulties. To account for the time the system being offline, CMS is extending the deadline for data review until September 8.
AANEM encourages its members to review their reports and seek out any necessary corrections. September 30 marks the date that data reported in the Open Payment System becomes available to the public. Information not marked as disputed and resolved by the September 8 deadline will be included in this public release.
AMA reports that approximately one-third of the data has errors that CMS has identified. CMS has stated that this erroneous data will be withheld from the initial public data release. Because of concerns about the data’s accuracy, AMA feels it is critical that physicians review their reports and seek any corrections that are necessary. (See more at
AMA Wire.)
