One Simple Step to Help Shape Health Care Policy

12/11/2012

Don’t miss your opportunity to help shape health care policy. When renewing your membership to the American Medical Association (AMA), be sure to indicate AANEM as your specialty society.

Currently, the AANEM is an active participant in the AMA House of Delegates (HOD). The HOD consists of delegates from state medical societies and specialty societies. It is the main forum for physician organizations to collaborate on the most important issues affecting their practices and the health care delivery system. Because specialty organizations are allocated delegates proportional to their number of AMA members, the organization must demonstrate periodically that it has met the “number of member and/or percent of member” requirements. If you are an AMA member, make sure you indicate the AANEM as your specialty society to help ensure that AANEM will continue to have a voice at HOD meetings.

Additionally, please ensure that you include that information in your AANEM profile. You can access it by logging into your member profile on the AANEM website.

If you are not a current AMA member, please consider joining. According to AANEM Past President John C. Kincaid, MD, “AMA membership is an important channel for the individual physician and organizations like AANEM, AAN, and AAPMR to participate in wide-reaching policy development."
