Medicare Claims Filing Update

AANEM has learned that  CMS is asking all providers to delay submission of claims for 2012 services to allow CMS time to develop new payment rate files.  Medicare claims administration contractors (MACs) also still need time to install and test the files and to update local coverage policies. 


This request is due to the unintended consequences that resulted from the delayed action by Congress to prevent cuts to the Sustainable Growth Rate. CMS expects that most if not all contractors will be ready to process claims under the revised rates on or before Jan. 18, 2012, which is the end of the 10-business-day claims hold period previously announced, however, some contractors’ time frames may differ. All MACs are expected to have the 2012 payment rates posted to their web sites by Jan. 11th.
