Deadline for ICD-10 Finalized

8/12/2014

October 1, 2015, is the new ICD-10 compliance date mandated in a final rule by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) last month. After the enactment of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 (PAMA) on April 1, 2014, implementation of ICD-10 was put on hold.

On July 31, 2014, HHS issued a final rule that gives healthcare providers a firm date as they prepare for ICD-10. All healthcare providers, health plans and healthcare clearinghouses must continue to use ICD-9-CM through September 30, 2015. With over a year to go before the implementation of ICD-10, this extra time allows providers to ramp up their operations and ensure their systems and business processes are ready to go.
