AANEM has learned that all Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) will be offering real-time ICD-10 testing March 3-7, 2014.
Medicare participating physicians will be able to submit a test claim with current dates of service using ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes. They will receive immediate feedback. If a claim cannot be processed, support staff will share tips on how to correct the claim and resubmit.
“Experts have advised physicians to start preparing now for the transition to the ICD-10 code set,” states Kathleen Micheletti, government relations director. “The MACs are providing a great opportunity for physicians and business office staff to gain a better understanding of the changes that will be necessary before the transition to ICD-10 occurs.”
Most MACs will require pre-registration to gather necessary information from physicians and ensure effective testing. Check your MAC’s website for more information and to register.
The AANEM offers several ICD-10 resources in its Coding Toolkit
that can help members prepare for the ICD-10 transition.
