AANEM Comments on 2019 Proposed Update to Physician Fee Schedule & QPP

9/10/2018

The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine submitted a comment letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on September 10, 2018, regarding CMS’s proposed rule changes in Medicare’s Physician Fee Schedule and the Quality Payment Program (QPP). This was the first year changes to the fee schedule and the QPP were included in the same rule.

Performance-based Payments Under the QPP
AANEM provided extensive comments and suggestions to CMS on how to improve the performance-based payments for all physicians under the QPP. The letter specifically focused on concerns of NM and EDX physicians. A summary of the proposed changes to the QPP is available on the CMS website.

Proposed Changes to E/M Codes
The letter also addressed the very-concerning proposed overhaul of Evaluation & Management (E/M) codes, as well the multiple procedure payment reduction policy that may adversely affect many EDX physicians. For more details, please see the comment letter.
