Categories of Membership


Join the AANEM and enjoy the many benefits of membership.

Physicians can apply for membership in the following categories: Fellow, Active, Associate, and Junior. Current AANEM members in any of these categories who are retired from practice or who are over 65 years old can contact the AANEM office for information about becoming an Emeritus member of the association. In 2009, the AANEM added two new categories of membership for nonphysicians - END Technologists and Researchers.   The requirements for each membership category are listed below:

 

Membership Categories

Physicians

AANEM membership is open to physicians with an MD, DO, or international equivalent degree with an interest in disorders of muscle and nerve. Physicians certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) holding time-limited board certificates must be recertified prior to expiration of their certificate to qualify for Fellow membership.

Certified by an American Board of Medical Specialties, Canadian equivalent, or American Osteopathic Association approved Board

Physician Dues Information 

 

END Technologists

AANEM membership is open to electroneurodiagnostic (END) Technologists. Requirements for this membership category are listed below:

a. Actively be contributing to the clinical practice of electrodiagnostic (EDX) and/or neuromuscular medicine.

b. Send a letter of support from a Fellow or Active Member of the AANEM.

c. Agree to abide by all AANEM position statements, including but not limited to those relating to physician supervision and scope of practice. Please note AANEM position statements do not permit nonphysician performance of needle electromyography (EMG) or interpretation of nerve conduction studies (NCSs).

d. Be generally supervised by a neurologist or physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) physician with direct supervision during the performance of NCSs.

END Technologist members are eligible to serve on AANEM committees and task forces as members and chairs. (Chair participates at Board meetings)
