Description:

The Neuromuscular Division has significant strengths in all aspects of neuromuscular disorders, including clinical care, electrodiagnosis, neuromuscular pathology, and basic and clinical research into pathogenesis and treatment of neuromuscular diseases. As the major tertiary referral center for Georgia and much of the Southeast, we see many patients with both common and uncommon neuromuscular disorders. We offer 2 training fellowships that are appropriate for neurologists seeking careers either in clinical practice or in academic research. These fellowships provide extensive experience in the clinical care of neuromuscular patients through participation in faculty clinics and in MDA sponsored clinics, including the ALS clinic.

Training in Neuromuscular Pathology is offered within our own pathology laboratory, which serves as the major referral laboratory for the region. The fellowship also provides broad exposure to other aspects of general clinical neurophysiology. Additional training in research topics can be arranged for interested candidates during a second year of fellowship. All fellowship positions are flexible enough to meet the individual interests of the candidates. This fellowship is accredited by the ACGME.

After completion of the fellowship, the physician will be eligible to take the board certifications offered by American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
