 Autonomic
Disorders
Autonomic disorders include many different types of diseases and result
from disturbances in a person's ability to regulate involuntary body functions.
Symptoms may include abnormal sweating, persistent dizziness while standing,
and abnormal bowel or bladder function. The problem can be located anywhere
along the autonomic nervous system pathway, from the brain to the nerve
fibers in the skin and other affected organs. The disorder may be inherited
but many occur without an obvious cause. People of all ages may be affected.
Cures are rare and treatment is aimed at reducing symptoms. Electrodiagnostic
evaluations can aid in diagnosing some of the many autonomic disorders.
