The AANEM provides several documents that are available to you as a resource regarding various topics pertaining to the field of electrodiagnostic medicine. As an AANEM member, these resources available to you free of charge. The following is a list of resource materials available to you by contacting the AANEM Office:

The Recommended Policy for Electrodiagnostic Medicine is a 16-page document includes a list of current procedural terminology (CPT) codes, a proposed list of ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes that are acceptable indications for electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCSs), an overview of the various components of electrodiagnostic testing (including somatosensory evoked potentials [SEPs]), a proposed maximum number of electrodiagnostic studies necessary for certain diagnostic categories, and other useful policies pertaining to the practice of electrodiagnostic medicine.

Who is Qualified to Practice Electrodiagnostic Medicine? This document outlines the qualifications the AANEM believes should be met in order to practice electrodiagnostic medicine. It is typically sent in response to inquiries from physicians and nonphysicians working with their local institution's credentialing committees and practice boards.

Recommended Educational Requirements for the Practice of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. This document outlines the educational requirements the AANEM believes should be met by electrodiagnostic medicine consultants. It is often sent in conjunction with Who is Qualified to Practice Electrodiagnostic Medicine?

"Any Willing Provider" Position Statement. This document is typically sent in response to inquiries from physicians experiencing difficulties with healthcare plans or networks.

Responsibilities of an Electrodiagnostic Technologist. This list contains specific duties which may be performed by electrodiagnostic technologists.

Job Descriptions for Electrodiagnostic Technologists. This guide is intended for directors of electrodiagnostic medicine laboratories. It is also intended to provide guidelines for federal and state agencies and hospital administrations concerned with classification of personnel.

Referral Guidelines for Electrodiagnostic Medicine Consultants. This guide is for the clinician who is attempting to determine the advisability of obtaining an electrodiagnostic medicine consultation for their patient. The document correlates clinical symptoms with possible diagnoses and explains the limitations of electrodiagnostic studies.

Guidelines in Electrodiagnostic Medicine - Implanted Cardioverters and Defibrillators. This guide is for the performance of electrodiagnostic testing on patients with implanted cardioverters and defibrillators based on available literature, discussions with manufacturers of such devices, and cardiologists with special expertise in cardiac electrophysiology.

Guidelines for Outcome Studies in Electrodiagnostic Medicine. This guideline contains seventeen criteria proposed to "construct and evaluate diagnostic and/or therapeutic outcome studies for patients with signs and symptoms of neuromuscular diseases."

Guidelines for Establishing a Quality Assurance Program in an Electrodiagnostic Laboratory. This document reviews "current concepts of quality patient care and steps for establishing a quality assurance program in an electrodiagnostic medicine practice."

Guidelines for Ethical Behavior Relating to Clinical Practice Issues in Electrodiagnostic Medicine. These guidelines outline "professional standards that electrodiagnostic medicine consultants should observe in their clinical and scientific activities."

Educational Guidelines for Electrodiagnostic Training Programs. These guidelines are typically sent to training program directors who request information to aid them in establishing new training programs or reviewing the current status of the educational aspects of existing programs.

Endorsement of American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) Guidelines. This AANEM position statement endorses and discusses the standard "specifications for the transfer of digital neurophysiological data between independent computer systems."

A Review of Electromyography Report Generators. This 2004 review was created to help AANEM members evaluate the different report generators. Data regarding the variety of features is provided as objectively as possible. Available to Members Only.

Technology Assessment: The Use of Surface EMG in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Nerve and Muscle Disorders. This AANEM position statement includes a review of the available literature in this area.

Technology Assessment: Dynamic Electromyography in Gait and Motion Analysis. This AANEM position statement includes a review of the available literature in this area.

Technology Review: Nervepace Digital Electroneurometer. This AANEM position statement contains a review of the available literature and a critique of the technology.

Listing of Fellowships in Electrodiagnostic Medicine. This listing is assembled from information submitted voluntarily by various institutions. It is an informational service offered to AANEM members; the AANEM does not review, evaluate, or provide input regarding the listing.

Listing of Educational Materials. This is a list of videotapes, case reports, monographs, workshop handouts, Annual Meeting course handouts, and other educational materials available through the AANEM Office.

Electrodiagnostic Medicine Courses: A Summary of EMG Courses Compiled by the AANEM. This list contains courses pertaining to electrodiagnostic medicine and topics related to electrodiagnostic medicine.

Suggested Reference List. This list of resource materials includes items covering both the practical and theoretical aspects of clinical electrophysiology. It is provided as a resource for individuals interested in clinical electrophysiology.
