Take This 1 Step to Avoid a 4% Medicare Cut

5/31/2017

Can I participate in MIPS without an EHR?
Yes. In an effort to encourage eligible clinicians to participate in MIPS in 2017 (and avoid the 4% penalty), CMS has deemed 2017 a “transition year” and is allowing clinicians to participate by reporting as little as ONE quality measure on ONE patient. There are several quality measures that may be of relevance to AANEM members that do not require an EHR. If you are participating in AAN’s Axon Registry or another qualified registry, you can report those measures via the registry. If you aren’t participating in a registry, there are several measures that you can report on via claims:

  • Stroke and Stroke Rehabilitation: Discharged on Antithrombic Therapy
  • Care Plan
  • Documentation of Current Medications in the Medical Record
  • Pain Assessment and Follow-Up
  • Falls: Risk Assessment
  • Falls: Plan of Care
  • Preventative Care and Screening Tobacco Use
  • Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for High Blood Pressure and Follow-Up
  • Osteoarthritis (OA): Function and Pain Assessment
  • Preventive Care and Screening: BMI Screening and Follow-up Plan
  • Functional Outcome Assessment

You can also opt to participate in an Improvement Activity (but that must be performed for a minimum of 90 consecutive days).

Visit our MACRA website for more detailed information on quality measures and improvement activities.
