ASTRONOMY AND GASTRONOMY ON THE BALLROOM LAWN

Friday, September 15 • 6:30pm • Cost: $125/per person

Enjoy a sumptuous 3-course meal and the beautiful desert vista while dining on the Ballroom Lawn of the JW Marriott, followed by a presentation by the Phoenix Astronomical Society. There will be several telescopes available for guests to learn about astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology. Grand Canyon Tour

Wednesday, September 14, 2017 • 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM • $145/person
Sign up to take in the beauty of the Seventh Natural Wonder of the World, the Grand Canyon! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a scenic 250-mile ride that will take you from the low-altitude desert landscape to mountains blanketed with Ponderosa pines.

Your knowledgeable guide will take you on a historical and geological journey past Black Canyon City, Verde Valley, and Flagstaff (home of the tallest peak in Arizona and Northern Arizona University) before the final leg of the journey to the Grand Canyon.

On arrival at the south rim of the Grand Canyon, your group will enjoy a guided tour of the rim. The first stop will be Mather Point, which gives you your first glimpse of the Canyon from one of the most impressive and accessible vista points on the rim. From this overlook you can see an extraordinary view of the inner canyon. The rim tour will include several stops at scenic vistas, along with free time at the rim to explore the visitor’s center, museums, and shops.

Enjoy approximately three hours on the rim of the Canyon before returning back to the Valley of the Sun.

Sedona Tour

Friday, September 15, 2017 •  8:00 AM - 4:00 PM  • $90/person
Known worldwide for its brilliant red rock mountains, breathtaking scenery and quaint artisan shops and galleries, Sedona is a “must see” destination for visitors to Arizona.

During the two-hour drive north, the group will travel through the diverse terrain of the Sonoran Desert, Verde Valley and Camp Verde before arriving in Sedona. Along the way, the guide will provide interesting narration about the area.

Upon arrival in Sedona, your guide will point out the numerous red rock formations for which Sedona is famous - Snoopy Rock, Bell Rock, Chapel Rock, Submarine Rock and others. Lunch may be arranged at a quaint local eatery, one of Sedona’s spectacular resorts, a park on the banks of Oak Creek, or drop guests off at a central location for “individual” dining. During the three-hour stay in Sedona you will have time to explore the galleries and shops of Main Street and Tlaquepaque.

Getting from the Airport to the Hotel

If you’re staying at the JW Marriot Desert Ridge, there are a few options for getting to the hotel from the airport if you’re not renting a car.

The first option is Transtyle. JW Marriott Desert Ridge partners with Transtyle, a sedan service.  They can arrange sedans, SUVs and larger vehicles. They can also arrange meet-and-greet pick-ups or will-call pick-ups. The advantage to using Transtyle is that the rate is a flat rate per car, not based on mileage or the number of people.  Reservations can be made by contacting them at 800-410-5479 or on their website www.transtyle.com.

The second option is SuperShuttle, which is usually lower in price.  Reservations can be made at www.supershuttle.com.

As in most cities, you can take a taxi, which will cost between $70 and $80 each way depending on which taxi company is used. JW Marriott Desert Ridge does not work with a specific taxi company. The Phoenix airport is also serviced by ride hailing apps, such as Uber and Lyft. This will cost $30 – $60, depending on service used.
