The fellowship combines evaluation of patients with neuromuscular diseases and electrodiagnosis. A large number of patients with a wide variety of neuromuscular diseases are seen in the Neuromuscular Clinic and Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic. Electrodiagnosis is emphasized in the diagnosis and management of these patients. The Electrodiagnostic Medicine Laboratory uses a quantitative approach, including single fiber EMG techniques and motor unit number estimation techniques. There is also an active muscle and nerve biopsy service. The neuromuscular program is involved in research and participation by the fellow is expected. Current projects include drug trials and quantitating disease progression with electrodiagnostic techniques. Fellows also participate in electroencephalography, polysomnography, and autonomic function testing, as well as the clinical counterparts of Epilepsy Clinic, Sleep Disorder Clinic, and Syncope Clinic.
