Description:

Two positions are available for the first year of fellowship which involves training in conventional electrodiagnostic medicine and exposure to quantitative EMG. Over 5000 studies are performed yearly. Each fellow has the opportunity to perform at least 500 studies per year. Two half-days per week are spent in Myasthenia Gravis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Neuromuscular and Chemodenervation Clinics. Training in interpretation of muscle and nerve biopsies is an integral part of the fellowship year. Participation in clinical research projects and Quality Improvement projects is encouraged. In addition to introductory didactic lecture series in neurophysiology, electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular conferences are held weekly.

Description:

There are two different fellowship opportunities. The first is a one year fellowship in electromyography and clinical neuromuscular disorders. The fellowship includes daily EMG sessions, one neuromuscular clinic session and one Inherited Neuropathy clinic weekly as well as in-patient consultation services. Over 1600 EMG studies are performed yearly and the fellows perform a minimum of 350 studies in the year. Training in Single Fiber EMG and Motor Unit Estimation studies is available. Conferences include neurophysiology lectures, electromyography conference and clinico-pathologic conference. Muscle and nerve biopsy reading sessions are scheduled with fellow participation. Clinical and/or basic science research opportunities are available.

The second fellowship is designed for those residents who intend to become general neurologists and who wish to be well trained in both EEG and EMG. This is a combined EEG/EMG fellowship in which 6 months is spent in each discipline. At least 200 EMG studies are performed during the 6 months. Evoked potential studies are reviewed with the EEG faculty. Some training in Sleep studies is included in the program. The fellows in this program are involved in the neuromuscular clinics during their EMG rotation and in Epilepsy Clinic during their EEG rotation.

Description:

The fellowship consists of a 1- to 2-year training program in the evaluation of patients with neuromuscular disorders with emphasis upon clinical electrodiagnosis. The primary assignment is within the Electroneuromyography Laboratory, where approximately 3000 studies are performed per year. In addition to conventional studies, experience also is gained in special studies including single fiber EMG and autonomic nervous system evaluation. Fellows participate in a didactic training program, attend two weekly Neuromuscular Clinics, and assist in the clinical evaluation of patients hospitalized with neuromuscular disorders. Fellows also participate in the interpretation of muscle and nerve biopsies. Clinical research projects are encouraged and basic research experience is possible within an interdepartmental neuromuscular research program. Prospective candidates should send their curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation.
