Dr. Chan Receives Best Abstract Award at the AANEM 61st Annual Meeting
10/20/2014  K. Ming Chan, MD, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, will receive the award for his work entitled, “Post-Surgical Electrical Stimulation Enhances Sensory Function Following Digital Nerve Transection: A Double Blind, Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.”

10/20/2014  While the Golseth Young Investigator Award is meant to showcase outstanding research by physicians in early practice, it is rare that the recipient is as young as this year’s Irina Shklyar, MD, of New Haven, CT.

Guideline Offers Direction in Genetic Testing for Certain Types of Muscular Dystrophy
10/13/2014  A new guideline from the AANEM and American Academy of Neurology  recommends guidance on how doctors should evaluate the full picture in order to determine what genetic tests may best diagnose a person’s subtype of limb-girdle or distal muscular dystrophy.

CMS Re-opens Hardship Exemption Applications for Meaningful Use
10/8/2014  On October 7, CMS announced that they are re-opening and extending the hardship exemption application deadline to November 30, 2014.  A successful application allows providers to avoid the 2015 Medicare penalties for not demonstrating meaningful use of Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT).  

State Liaisons Meet for Day on Capitol Hill
9/24/2014  On September 15, AANEM hosted its first Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. AANEM staff led 26 members of AANEM’s State Liaison Program on meetings with a total of 76 congressional offices.

A rare father-daughter neurology team, the Gutmanns’ first project together began when Laurie was a third year medical student at West Virginia University (WVU) over two decades ago.

Quality and Resource Use Reports Available Soon
8/26/2014  Physicians, it’s time to access your confidential Medicare feedback reports, called Quality and Resource Use Reports (QRUR). In early September, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will make QRURs available based on care provided in 2013 to all groups and solo practitioners. 

There is Still Time to Register for the Open Payment System
8/26/2014  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the deadline for data review through the Sunshine Act portal until September 8. Physicians should review reports and seek necessary corrections as soon as possible.
