Foundation Announces Neurotoxin Clinical Research Fellowship
1/27/2015  Recognizing the critical need for neuromuscular research, the AANEM Foundation is offering a one-year award to institutions to provide clinical research training for board-certified or board-eligible neurologists, physiatrists, or clinical neurophysiologists.

1/27/2015  News broke this week that Health and Human Services (HHS) has set some clear and, arguably, aggressive goals for shifting the Medicare program, and the health care system at large, from fee-for-service to value or quality-based reimbursement.

1/27/2015  The AANEM is seeking applicants for the Muscle & Nerve Editorial Board. Openings include an associate editor and board member positions. 

2015 CPT Code Changes Impacting NM and EDX Medicine
1/27/2015  This fall the American Medical Association (AMA) released the 2015 CPT code changes that went into effect January 1, 2015. There were some minor changes relevant to electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular medicine. 

2015 Coding Guide Now Available
1/27/2015  The AANEM announced the release of the 2015 version of their Coding Guide on January 27, 2015.  The AANEM 2015 Online Coding Guide is the most comprehensive source for electrodiagnostic (EDX) and neuromuscular (NM) coding.  

Continuing the Fight Against Fraud
1/13/2015  AANEM continues to work on educating payers about quality electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine studies. Most recently, on December 10, Peter Grant, MD, gave a fraud and abuse presentation to over 30 medical directors.

ABEM MOCP Annual Recording Fees Due by Dec. 31
12/18/2014  If you are enrolled in the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine’s (ABEM) Maintenance of Certification Program (MOCP), your deadline for submitting your annual CME recording fee ($30) and form is December 31 to avoid a late fee.  

Kathy Smith Retires After 27 Years
12/2/2014  In 1987, attendees at the San Antonio annual meeting of the American Association of Electromyography & Electrodiagnosis’ (AAEE, AANEM’s predecessor) were introduced to a new Meeting Manager, Kathy Smith. Twenty-seven years and 27 annual meetings later, Kathy has announced her retirement, effective December 12, 2014. 

Fighting to Ensure Quality in Neuromuscular and EDX Medicine
12/2/2014  AANEM’s health policy director, Millie Birr, JD, MPP, exhibited at the National Healthcare Antifraud Association’s (NHCAA) Anti-Fraud Expo in Dallas in mid-November.  More than 1,000 private and public payers and healthcare anti-fraud law enforcement personnel attended the conference, with 100 attendees stopping by the AANEM booth. 


2015 Fee Schedule—What Does This Mean for Reimbursement?
11/18/2014  On October 31, 2015, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Final Rule for the 2015 Medicare Physician Payment Schedule. This document and addendum includes updates to the relative value units (RVU) for all medical procedures.
